Pam and I started the process of having a new home built in 2021. While initially the process seemed overwhelming and quite daunting, we had the good fortune of being referred to Matt Kustusch, of MKA Architectural Design Group (MKA). Pam explained to Matt what her concept was of a retirement home with plenty of room for our children and grandchildren to visit, but without us having to climb stairs. Matt went to work immediately, consulting with Pam on an almost-daily basis, informing her of the city requirements, as well as the technical points of constructing our perfect house. Plans were made, amended and changed as needed or desired. Matt helped us navigate a world we knew existed, but we had never experienced. He was always available for calls, texts or emails. No detail was too minor for Matt to discuss with us. Meanwhile, Kelly Kustusch, Matt’s wife, greatly assisted us in coordinating vendors and suppliers for what we needed in the household itself. Both Kelly and Matt worked tirelessly with our General Contractor and the various sub-contractors to coordinate the progress and the various municipal potential issues. As a result, we have not just a house, but a home that will serve us for the rest of our lives. We would strongly recommend MKA, Matt and Kelly Kustusch to anyone who is considering building an entirely new house, or even to someone who is planning an addition.

It took me along time to post a review of my experience with MKA that ultimately ended in us parting ways without a completed project. I hate posting bad reviews of businesses but I am out of so much money and time that it needed to be done. We originally hired Matt to do a 2nd floor remodel which started out great. So great that we wanted to expand our project to a larger scope…that’s when things went down hill. Later when we got into the details of what was needed we found the need to bring in a structural engineer. Big mistake and we learned just how unorganized and inexperienced matt is with his recommended partners. Thousands of dollars and 2 structural engineers later that gave totally different assessments we were furious and out of a lot of money. Matt was unorganized and not attentive as time went on. For example, Part of our project was finishing our basement….it took our contractor solving the riddle of relocating our staircase…something our well paid architect should have done. Additionally, time lines were extended multiple times due to matt disappearing for weeks on end, bad communication and him taking lots of vacation time that ultimately ended our working relationship. This experience was a nightmare and left us out of a lot of money and time and nothing to show for it. Yes we got the preliminary plans from him but even after over a year of working with him nothing came near being able to finalize for permit submission. Having to start over and hire another architect, we later found important things were caught that MKA missed as well as a much better design that made sense for our home. Proceed with caution when working with MKA. I’m sure they will have a calculated response to this but I have others to back my story that will attest to similar a experience working with MKA.

We had a great experience working with MKA on our kitchen remodel project. The MKA team was dedicated and helpful in guiding and leading the whole project. Given existing conditions in our home, our project needed some real creative thinking and problem solving, and MkA was able to think outside the box to deliver an amazing design! They were involved every step of the way, from design concept all the way through to project completion. We are thrilled with the end product!

Matt did a perfect design to blend together a 60 year old home with a 2021 addition. We get nothing but compliments on how perfectly the garage addition fits in with the rest of the house.

Matt and the team were the best choice we made for our master bath project. Shockingly, they stayed exactly on budget throughout the process which is a rare feat in this industry. Matt always voiced his opinions, respectfully, and I felt he always had us in mind. He's a very personable guy too that I felt I could call anytime to run ideas or concerns by him. Highly recommend and I plan on using them again.

We knew that we wanted a unique modern house that drew influences from modern contemporary box homes. Matt was able to transform our vision onto paper. He is very thorough and did not miss a single detail we requested when planning every room. Every space in the house reflects our personality and lifestyle. Every side, or all 4 exterior elevations of our house has a dynamic design that mimics the homes featured in Architectural magazines. There are so many well-planned details that give our home a unique signature. For example, there is a "tree niche" near the front entry that adds architectural playfulness to the space and a view of nature with natural light to the interior of our front entry. The accent wall that divides the living room and dining room features a 48" see-through linear fireplace. The amazing light-filled stairwell featuring two skylights, glass railings, and views of all four levels of our home. Every inch of this home is thoughtful design and there is no wasted or awkward space. The space feels and looks a lot larger than homes of similar square footage. Matt has designed the layout around our future furniture and even designed special niches for some of our pieces! During this entire home-building process, our architect/ client relationship has evolved into a great friendship. Matt is an amazing architect. We hired him to design a 2-story addition for our old tudor home. I was trying to think of a layout for weeks and still couldn't figure anything out that made sense. I even talked to a couple architects before I found Matt, and they weren't very helpfull. Matt looked at our house and immediately knew what to do and thought of the perfect plan. I am extremely happy with it! He is also very fun to work with and always makes sure that we don't get stressed out. He responds to emails promptly and always keeps us in the loop. His fee is very reasonable and fair. I highly recommend Matt!
